A backyard pool transforms Salt Lake City summers — from triple-digit July afternoons in the Avenues to long Saturday evenings entertaining in Sugar House. Peak Pools has spent 20+ years designing and installing in-ground pools throughout SLC, from the foothills above the U to the established neighborhoods of Holladay, Federal Heights, and Yalecrest.
We build all three major pool types — concrete (gunite/shotcrete), fiberglass, and vinyl liner — so we can recommend what’s actually right for your SLC lot, soil, and budget. Most SLC pool builders push one type only. We don’t.
SLC Neighborhoods We Build In
The Avenues & Federal Heights — historic homes, narrow access; we specialize in tight-fit fiberglass installs
Sugar House & 9th & 9th — mature trees, often clay soils requiring careful excavation
Sandy, Draper, Riverton, Herriman, South Jordan, West Jordan — newer construction, larger flat yards
Murray, Millcreek, South Salt Lake — mid-century homes; vinyl liner pools especially popular
If you’re in the Salt Lake Valley, we build there.
What Makes Building a Pool in Salt Lake City Different
Freeze-thaw cycles — concrete mix designs and plumbing depths engineered for SLC winters
Soil variation — Avenues clay vs. Holladay rock vs. Riverton sand each require different excavation strategies
Setback rules — SLC residential setbacks differ from county areas; we handle permits
HOA approvals — many east bench and Daybreak HOAs require submitted plans
Short pool season — proper heating + pool cover selection extend your season meaningfully
How Much Does an In-Ground Pool Cost in Salt Lake City?
Vinyl liner pools: $45,000 – $90,000
Fiberglass pools: $65,000 – $150,000
Concrete (gunite) pools: $80,000 – $250,000+ for premium builds
SLC tends to run slightly higher than southern UT due to permit fees, soil prep complexity, and access constraints in older neighborhoods. See full pool cost guide →
SLC Pool Builder FAQ
Q: Do I need a permit to build an in-ground pool in Salt Lake City? Yes — SLC requires building, plumbing, and electrical permits with multiple inspections. We handle all permitting.
Q: How long does a Salt Lake City pool build take? Fiberglass: 3–6 weeks. Vinyl: 4–8 weeks. Concrete: 8–14 weeks. Most clients sign in winter for early-summer completion.
Q: Can a pool be built on a sloped SLC east bench lot? Almost always — and the views can be spectacular. We engineer retaining and (for premium builds) vanishing-edge details.
Q: What about backyard size constraints in older SLC neighborhoods? We’ve installed pools in tight Avenues yards, Sugar House bungalows, and 1920s Federal Heights properties. A small fiberglass plunge pool can fit in surprisingly little space.
