Why Fiberglass Has Taken Over the Utah Pool Market
A decade ago, almost every in-ground pool in Utah was concrete. Today, fiberglass is the fastest-growing in-ground option in the state.
Install in 3–6 weeks — get swimming the same season you sign
Lowest lifetime maintenance — smooth gel coat resists algae, uses far less chemicals
Smooth, comfortable interior — no rough plaster on bare feet
No interior refinish for 20+ years
Predictable pricing — shell cost locked at order
Perfect for shorter Utah pool seasons
The downsides: shapes are limited to what manufacturers mold (no custom shape), max depth is around 8’6″, and the shell has to physically fit down your driveway.
How We Install Fiberglass Pools in Utah
Fiberglass installs are faster than concrete, but they’re not “drop and done.” Done wrong, fiberglass pools shift, crack, or develop bulges. We’ve installed fiberglass pools across Utah’s varied soils for years and know how to do it right.
1. Free design + shape selection
We bring sample shells to you, walk through manufacturer options (Latham, San Juan, Leisure Pools), and pick the shape that fits.
2. Permits + delivery scheduling
We pull permits and coordinate the shell delivery — fiberglass shells ship by oversized truck.
3. Excavation
We dig the hole to manufacturer spec — the shell sits in a precise pocket of compacted gravel.
4. Shell set
The shell arrives on a flatbed and is craned into the hole — usually 2–4 hours. Most photogenic day of the build.
5. Plumbing + backfill
We rough-in plumbing and backfill in lifts with compacted gravel. This is the step bad installers cut corners on — improper backfill causes 90% of fiberglass pool problems. We don’t.
6. Coping, deck, equipment
Coping (cantilever concrete or paver), decking, and equipment install. Variable-speed pump, cartridge filter, heater, salt or chlorine, automation.
7. Fill + start-up
We fill, balance the chemistry, and walk you through every system. You’re swimming.
How Much Does a Fiberglass Pool Cost in Utah?
Small fiberglass plunge / cocktail pool (10×16): $55,000 – $75,000
Q: How long does a fiberglass pool last in Utah? Structural shells carry warranties of 25–50 years. Gel-coat finish typically looks new for 15–20 years.
Q: Can I get a fiberglass pool installed in spring and swim that summer? Yes. Sign in March, swim in May.
Q: Will the shell crack in Utah’s freeze-thaw winters? Not when installed correctly. The shell flexes; what cracks pools is improper backfill.
Q: Are fiberglass pools “tacky”? Holdover myth. Modern shells from Latham, Leisure, and San Juan have stunning gel-coat finishes.
Q: Can a fiberglass pool be saltwater? Absolutely. Salt is gentler on fiberglass than chlorine.
