Project Spotlight: Premium Coeur dAlene Lake-View Concrete Pool
Project Spotlight: Premium Coeur d Alene Lake-View Concrete Pool
Location: Coeur d Alene, Idaho (Hayden Lake area) Pool type: Custom shotcrete with vanishing-edge view of the lake Size: 17 by 42 feet with attached spa, fire features Project budget: $385,000 turnkey Timeline: 18 weeks signed-to-swim (May start, October completion)
The Challenge
A Hayden Lake estate owner wanted to add a pool that captured the lake view from the rear yard. The North Idaho luxury market expects premium aesthetics, real engineering, and proper integration with the lakefront vernacular.
Specific requirements:
Use the slope to create a lake-facing infinity edge
Match the home’s craftsman-meets-modern architecture
Year-round-ready spa for shoulder seasons
Snow-load-rated automatic cover
Premium finishes throughout
Lakefront HOA design review approval
The Design
17 by 42 foot rectangular shotcrete pool oriented to the lake view. Vanishing edge spillway at the lake-facing end with a hidden catch basin below deck. Attached raised spa at the opposite end with sheer-descent waterfall. Two fire bowls flanking the deck.
Finish: dark gray PebbleTec for dramatic water depth. Natural stone (local basalt) coping and decking — coordinated with the home’s existing exterior. Glass mosaic waterline tile in greens/grays mirroring the lake.
Custom freeze-thaw concrete mix for North Idaho winters
Plumbing run 36 inches below grade (well below frost line)
Reinforced rebar density at vanishing-edge cantilever
Snow-load-rated cover with reinforced track
Wind protection landscape on the lake-facing edge
Lakefront stormwater compliance (no pool drainage into lake)
HOA Submittal
Hayden Lake area homes have demanding design review including shoreline restrictions. We submitted full 3D renderings with material specs, lighting plans, and stormwater management. Approved on second round (one revision request on coping color).
Construction Realities
Started early May after spring thaw. Foundation through shell complete by July. Coping and decking through August. Equipment commissioning and finish in September. First swim in early October — owner used the spa year one (they were waiting for next summer for full swim use).
What Makes This Build Special
The vanishing-edge effect with Hayden Lake in the background is genuinely cinematic — the kind of pool you see in luxury real estate photography. Sunset photos of the pool with the lake beyond have become the family’s most-shared images.
