Project Spotlight: Year-Round Pool with Indoor Pool House in Park City
Project Spotlight: Year-Round Pool with Indoor Pool House in Park City
Location: Park City, Utah (Promontory) Pool type: Custom shotcrete inside heated pool house structure Size: 50 by 18 feet lap pool with attached spa Project budget: $1.2M turnkey including structure Timeline: 11 months (designed to deliver by family relocation)
The Challenge
A Promontory homeowner with serious training-swimmer kids wanted year-round lap swimming at 7,200 feet of elevation. Outdoor pools at Promontory are usable May to October at best — for daily training, an indoor pool was the only realistic option.
Specific requirements:
50-foot lap distance for serious training
Year-round usability through Park City winters
Architectural integration with existing home
Promontory design review approval
Energy-efficient operation (heated air + heated water)
Spectator viewing area for family / guests
The Design
50 by 18 foot rectangular pool, 4 feet uniform depth, with attached spa at the deep end. Pool sits inside a 60 by 32 foot pool house structure with vaulted timber-frame ceiling, full-glass garage door for summer open-air use, and architectural integration with the main home’s stone-and-timber exterior.
Pool finish: light gray PebbleTec for visual brightness. Travertine coping and pool deck. Glass tile waterline detail.
HVAC: dedicated dehumidification system sized for indoor pool + heat-recovery ventilator + radiant floor heating + air handlers. This is critical and where many indoor pools go wrong.
Month 11: Equipment commissioning, fill, balance, pool school, handover
The HVAC Story
The single most important system in any indoor pool isn’t the pool itself — it’s the dehumidification and air handling. Get this wrong and you damage the building. We coordinated with HVAC specialists who design pool-house environments to get sizing exactly right.
The Result
The kids train daily through the winter. The family hosts summer parties with the glass garage door open, blurring indoor and outdoor. Total operating cost: ~$1,200/month in winter (heating + dehumidification), ~$400/month in summer.
What This Costs
Pool shell, plumbing, equipment: $325K
Pool house structure (60×32, premium finishes): $620K
